The Tools Grant is a non-repayable grant for apprentices to use towards the purchase of tools, protective equipment and clothing for their trade.

To apply for the Tools Grant, you need to be an apprentice in Ontario and meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Have successfully completed or been exempted from level one in-class training on or after April 1, 2020;
  • Have been registered as an apprentice for at least 12 months; and
  • have a registered Training Agreement or a completed Training Agreement within the past 90 days.

If you are under 18 years old, please contact your local Employment Ontario apprenticeship office to obtain a paper application. You and a parent or guardian must sign the completed application form and submit to your local Ontario apprenticeship office.

You must complete the application in one session. It takes about 10 minutes to complete.

*Client ID is the identification number issued to you by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) when you registered as an apprentice.

This notice is being provided to you in accordance with subsection 39(2) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) uses this application to assess your eligibility for the Tools Grant program, under which you would receive funds to support the purchase of tools and equipment for your apprenticeship program. By making this application, you are consenting to the collection and use of personal information submitted in this application for the purposes of administering the Tools Grant Program.

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.O.1990 F.31 governs the collection, use and disclosure of personal information. The collection of personal information on this application complies with section 38(2) and 39(2) of the Act.

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development collects and uses your personal information pursuant to subsection 38(2) and clauses 41(1)(a) and (b) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Your personal information on this form will be used for the purpose of administering and evaluating the Tools Grant program. Your personal information may be disclosed to the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, the Ministry of Finance and other government ministries for the purpose of administering this program. This disclosure is authorized by clauses 42(1)(b) and (c) of the FIPPA.

By agreeing to this collection of personal information you are also confirming that the information you have provided is accurate and true. Information that you provide on this form will be verified against Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development records to ensure eligibility for the Tools Grant program. If information appears incorrect, you may be provided an opportunity to correct it. If Tools Grant funds are paid out to you and the information relied on is later determined to be incorrect, you may be required to repay that money.

"Administering" the program includes assessing and verifying your eligibility for the Tools Grant program, planning and delivering the program, as well as evaluating, monitoring and preventing or detecting fraud or unauthorized receipt of payments in the use of the program, and recovering unauthorized payments.
